Article 35A and ban on Jamaat: Kashmir traders protest in Srinagar

Srinagar: Amid shutdown Kashmiri trade bodies on Tuesday held a protest demonstration in Srinagar against the Home Ministry’s ban on Jama’at-e-Islami and the recent amendments in Article 35-A.

Representatives of various trade bodies assembled in the city center and took out a protest march. The protesters were holding placards and banners demanding dismissal of the petition challenging Article 35A and revoking ban on Jamaat-e-Islami. They also shouted slogans in favour of Article 35A.

The trade bodies including Kashmir Economic Alliance, The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK), and Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation, All Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association and other traders bodies had also called for a shutdown in the valley.

They said that any attempt to tinker with Article 35A would be disastrous. They also criticized the governments crackdown on JeI and said that the organization has made huge social contributions for the welfare of poor and downtrodden.
