Srinagar: Continuing with its crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), authorities on Friday sealed the residential house of former district President of Jamaat from Srinagar.
According to family sources police and revenue officials raided the house of Bashir Ahmad Lone at Syedpora Harwan at around Six p.m. in the evening and asked the family members to leave the residence.
“They came and asked the family to vacate the property and later sized the property and blocked the entrances with wooden planks,” said a family member.
“This is outrageous as the family including the children were thrown out of their house in this cold winter for none of their fault,” he said.
The move comes after governments crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami in which hundreds of the organisation’s top leadership, members and sympathisers were detained in overnight raids.
The central government in a recent order also have declared the organisation as “illegal” and banned it for the time period of five years.
Meanwhile, the move by the government was condemned widely by the Hurriyat leaders and mainstream political parties including Sajad Lone and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.
The family alleged that the move is “abuse of powers”by the authorities as the government order nowhere says to seize the property of Jamaat members.
