Jammu violence: Curfew remains in place for fifth consecutive day

Srinagar: Curfew continues on the fifth consecutive day in Jammu city on Monday following violent protests, riots and arson against the Pulwama militant attack that left 49 CRPF personnel dead and several others injured.

Curfew was relaxed on Monday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in some areas of the city but have not been lifted entirely.

Massive violent protests rocked Jammu and Kashmir’s winter capital after a bandh call given by Vishwa Hindu Parishad J&K, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry supported by Jammu Bar Association.

Dozens of vehicles were torched in Gujjar Nagar area following which the authorities imposed curfew in the city. Large contingent of forces were deployed in the area to control the situation.

Reports of attacks on Kashmiri employee quarters were also reported from Janipur area.

Army was also called in to control the situation who held a flag march in the city. Police have already arrested ten person in Friday’s violence and rioting.
