Srinagar: Protests rocked Lal chowk area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag on Saturday amid a complete shutdown in the town after reports of harassment and attacks on Kashmiris by rightwing mobsters and arsonists in Jammu.
Local sources said that several people assembled in Lalchowk Anantnag and raised slogans against rightwing extremism in Jammu and demanded complete protection of property and life of Kashmiris in Jammu.
The protestors said that they were shocked to see everything happening despite curfew and heavy police presence in the winter capital.
Clashes between youths and forces were also reported from the area.
The rightwing mobs torched more than 2 dozen vehicles of Muslims in Jammu and attacked residential quarters of Kashmiris on Thursday.
Fresh attacks were also reported on Saturday on residential quarters of Kashmiris at Janipur Saturday morning despite strict curfew in place.
