Srinagar: Two militants have been killed in an overnight gunfight with government forces in Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
A police spokesperson said that based on credible inputs about presence of militants, a joint team of forces cordoned Gopalpora village in Chadoora and started a search operation.
“As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight,” the spokesperson said. “In the ensuing encounter two militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identities of the slain militants and their affiliation is being ascertained.”
According to some reports the militants killed in the encounter has been identified as Hilal Wani alias Abu Maaz and Shoiab Morsi both residents of Kulgam.
The spokesperson said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter.
