Maqbool Bhat hanging anniversary: JRL holds protest in Lal Chowk, scores detained

Srinagar:Β Dozens of activists of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Monday were detained by police here after they tried to march towards the city centre after holding protest demonstration to mark the 35th hanging anniversary demanding mortal remains of JKLF founder Maqbool Bhat from Tihar Jail.

Reports said that scores of activists andΒ leaders assembled at Maisuma Chowk in Srinagar holding banners and placards. Raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans the protests demanded return of mortal remains of Bhat and Afzal Guru.

Witnesses said that a posses of policemen deployed in the area swung into action and bundled the protesters including female activists in the police vehicle and detained them.
