Srinagar: Five militants have been killed in the gunfight between militants and forces in Kelam area of district Kulgam in south Kashmir.
The slain militants are from Kulgam and belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit. They were identified as Waseem Bashir Rather alias Zeeshan from Ashmuji Kulgam, Zahid Parray from Gopal pora DH Pora Kulgam, Idrees Bhat from Arwani, Aaqib Nazir from Zongal Pora Kulgam and Parvaiz Bhat from Nuksan Pora Qaimoh Kulgam.
According to local sources massive clashes erupted near the encounter site while police used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting youth. At least ten youth were injured in police action and two houses have been reportedly damaged.
Mobile internet services have been snapped in the area while train services between Banihal to Srinagar and vice versa will also remain suspended on as a “precautionary measure” according to the officials.
The gunfight started early morning between militants and joint team of forces including 9 RR SOG Kulgam and CRPF.
