Kashmir cut off from the world; highway closed, flights cancelled

Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained closed and flights have been suspended at the airport here for second consecutive due to heavy snowfall in the region.

Officials said the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed due to heavy snowfall at Jawahar Tunnel and Patnitop areas and landslides at several places.

They said that the Border Roads Organisation is working to clear the highway but weather is hampering the clearance operations, adding that, once the weather improves the traffic would be restored on the highway.

Flight operations at Srinagar airport have been also affected due to poor visibility and more than two dozen flights have been cancelled so far, officials said.
