PM visit; Mobile internet service suspended in Kashmir

Srinagar: The mobile internet service of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was suspended in the Kashmir valley on Sunday, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving here to inaugurate and lay foundation stone of various developmental projects.
Modi arrived at Leh this morning on a day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
The mobile internet service of all companies, including BSNL, was suspended from mid-night as a precautionary measure in the Kashmir valley to prevent spread of rumours.
We have received instructions from the authorities to suspend mobile internet service in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, service providers said this morning.
Service will be restored only after receiving fresh advisory from the authorities, they said.
Mobile internet service becomes the first casualty during encounters between militants and security forces, Republic Day and Independence Day besides visit of VVIPs as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.
However, the Broadband and point-to-point internet service was normal.
The suspension of mobile internet affected students, doctors and other professionals. Media persons working in the field were also affected in the absence of mobile internet.
