Srinagar: Weather woes to continue as isolated rain and snow is predicted during the next 24 hours in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh while a major Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit on February 5 which will remain active till February 7.
There was slight improvement in the day temperature on Saturday due to dry weather during the past 24 hours in the Kashmir valley though it was still below normal.
A Met department spokesman said here this evening in a forecast said there could be light rain and snow in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region while weather will remain dry in Jammu region during the next 24 hours. There could be isolated to scattered very light rain and snow on higher reaches in the state during subsequent two days.
However, he said there is a forecast for widespread rain or snow from February 5 to 7 in the Kashmir valley. This could again affect surface and air traffic.
People in Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region continued to shiver due to below freezing temperature. The maximum and minimum temperature at Leh was minus 0.8 degree and minus 11.5 degree respectively, he said adding the sky would be partly to generally cloudy during the next 24 hours when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around minus 1 degree and minus 13 at Leh. Kargil recorded minimum temperature of minus 15.4 degree and the maximum today was 1.6 degree.
The summer capital, Srinagar, witnessed 0.5 degree improvement in the maximum temperature today due to dry weather during the past 24 hours. Against yesterdays 6.5 degree temperature on Friday, it was 7 degree today, still about two notches below normal. Because of open during the night the minimum temperature will witness drop while the day mercury will surge, he said adding the sky would be partly to generally cloudy and the maximum temperature would be around 9 degree, slightly above normal, while the minimum temperature will be minus 3 degree, more than two notches below normal during the next 24 hours.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla freezes at minus 10.5 degree minimum temperature while the maximum temperature today was 0.0 degree, 1.4 degree below normal.
Famed health resort of Pahalgam recorded minus 9.2 degree, 3.1 degree below normal while the maximum temperature today was 4.8 degree, a notch below normal.
