Before SHRC, Police maintains Noorbagh youth killed in militant firing amid CASO

Srinagar:Β 26-year-old youth Mohammad Saleem Malik of Norrbagh Srinagar was killed by militants amid a cordon-and-search-operation in September this year, the police have reiterated its statement before the state human rights commission.

The SHRC had issued a notice to Deputy Commissioner of this summer capital of the state and SSP Srinagar over the killing of the youth in Noorbagh area of Srinagar.

The police had claimed that the youth Saleem Malik was killed by militants amid CASO while the family maintained that he was killed in β€œcold blood” as there were no militants present in the area.

The notice was issued by the member SHRC on a petition filed by chairman international forum for Justice and Human Rights Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, seeking directions by State Human Rights Commission to police to reveal how militants managed to flee despite cordon at Noorbagh Qamarwari.

In its reply submitted to the SHRC orders, the police said that the youth was hit by a bullet fired by the militants while they were trying to escape from the spot on September 27.

β€œDuring the course of the investigation, while as the cordon was laid, it was found that the militants opened fire indiscriminately during night hours and took advantage of the darkness to flee from the spot. In their firing, Muhammad Saleem Malik of Bagwanpora, Noorbagh Safakadal sustained injuries and succumbed,” read the report submitted by the SSP Srinagar Imtiaz Ismail Parray, petition Untoo told GNS.

The report added: β€œThe investigation officer found five empty cartridges from the spot…The investigation is going on.”
