Srinagar: A brief exchange of fire took place when militants, travelling in a car opened fire after they were signaled to stop by security forces at a checkpoint in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Monday afternoon.
Official sources told UNI that soldiers at a checkpoint in village Jandwal in Pulwama, signaled a vehicle to stop. However, they said, militants inside the vehicle fired at the jawans, who retaliated, ensuing in a brief exchange of fire.
They said the militants later managed to escape from the spot, adding a search operation has been launched to nab the ultras.
However, an Army official said that soldiers deployed at the checkpoint signaled a vehicle to stop. βAs the vehicle didnβt stop, soldiers fired few warning shots in the air though the vehicle fled from the spot,β he said.
He said it canβt be confirmed if the people present inside the vehicle were militants or not. βNo one fired from inside the vehicle,β he added.
