Srinagar: Police Drug De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre along with Department of Civil Engineering of SSM College Of Engineering and Technology organized a programme on Substance Abuse Among Young Adults, Current Trends And Collective Responsibilities, in which experts from Police Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre were invited to speak.
The programme was attended by the Principal, Registrar and other faculty members of the college, besides huge gathering of students from various departments were also present in the seminar hall. Dr Mohammad Muzaffer Khan Director Drug De Addiction Centre, Ms Iram Maqbool Wani and Mr Amir Sultan, Mental Health Counsellors interacted with the students on substance abuse among youth and answered queries raised by the students during the interaction.
The programme was started with the recitation of verses from Holy Quran and a beautiful oration of Naat e Shareef. At the onset, principal Dr N A Shah gave a brief introduction about the substance abuse and welcomed the resource persons.
Ms Iram Maqbool Wani deliberated about drugs, their types, and risk factors associated with it. In her talk emphasis was laid on different trends in drug abuse among young people and measures to be adopted to avoid recourse to drugs.
Amir Sultan highlighted collective responsibilities of common folk including experts, students and other stake holders in eradicating the menace of drug addiction. While explaining the broader role of society with the aid of audio-visual graphics he interacted with the students and cleared their doubts pertaining to the cause.
Dr Mohammad Muzaffer Khan gave a holistic perspective about substance abuse, current trends, role of family members and teachers. He laid stress upon developing mechanisms which would help in curbing the menace. He suggested that the college authorities should make their campus a drug free zone and inculcate a strong value system among the students. He and his team also answered the queries and concerns raised by the student in the brief question answer session.
The program was concluded with a vote of thanks by college authorities and they expressed their desire to conduct such programs in future as well.
