Srinagar: Class work was on Thursday suspended in educational institutions in various districts in the Kashmir valley as a precautionary measure in the wake of encounter between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Kupwara since early this morning.
The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, has also ordered suspension of all class work. However, Kashmir University (KU) has so far not suspended classes.
The district authorities in the frontier district of Kupwara has ordered suspension of class work in all educational institutions today. Though no reason was given for suspension of the class work, it is said the step has been taken as a precautionary measure following encounter in Handwara.
Meanwhile, the authorities in district Bandipora have also ordered the closure of all educational institutions. Similar orders were issued by authorities in Baramulla district where Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) and colleges will remain closed today in Pattan and Sopore.
In summer capital, students who had arrived at Kotibagh Girls Higher Secondary School (HSS) near here were seen returning to their homes. The students said they were told that there will be no class work and ordered to go home.
Reports of suspension of class work in other HSS and colleges were received from different parts of Srinagar.
