Two NC workers shot dead, another injured in Old city two days ahead of polls

Srinagar: Two National Conference workers, one of them a PRO with party’s legislator from Habbakadal, Shamima Firdous, were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Habbakadal area of Srinagar city on Friday.

Another worker of the National Conference was critically injured in the attack that took place Karfli Mohalla, Habbakadal at around 11:30 am today.

GNS news agency reported that the gunmen attacked the trio while they were going through a street in the area.

While one of them identified as Nazir Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani resident of Pamposh Colony Noorbagh was PRO with the legislator, two others were her close aides.

In the incident, the trio suffered injuries and were shifted to hospital for treatment, sources said.

However, two critically wounded Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat resident of Kani Kadaland and Nazir Ahmad Wani succumbed on way to the hospital, they said.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman in a statement issued here said that militants killed two civilians in the interiors of Srinagar city known as Karfali Mohalla today.

“In this incident, three civilians sustained injuries and were evacuated to nearby hospital for medical attention,” the spokesman said.

However, among the injured, two persons Nazir Ahmad Wani and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat succumbed. Another injured civilian Shakeel Ahmad is stated to be stable, he said.

Police have registered a case and initiated investigation into the instant matter, he said.
