Alleging mismanagement JKCA official quits as committee member

Jammu: Days after some of the senior cricketers resigned as selectors, a senior official on Tuesday called it a day as committee member from the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association alleged that the cricketing body is dancing to the tune of Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan.

Pathan is having a contract with the JKCA for this season as a mentor and a player but his alleged interference into the selection process has triggered controversy.

“I am taking this step of opting out of JKCA Cricket Committee that was appointed to facilitate the Chief Executive Officer to run the affairs of the Association,” Sham Swaroop Kalsotra, Committee member in his resignation letter submitted to the JKCA said.

He alleged that left with no other option, he opted to quit as things were not happening as per the laid down rules and norms.

“The JKCA never felt to consult or even inform the legally selected members in cricketing matters,” he said adding that the team selectors for seniors have resigned and neither any action was initiated from the Association nor a call for action.

“If all have resigned, there must be some semblance of truth in what they have said or alleged. This should have been put to the Cricket Affairs Committee and JKCA members,” he asserted.

“I was never in favour for ‘quota’ system for regions. But the way things are being handled, this cannot be over looked,” he claimed and added that there are many other examples of mishandling of the team but none raised a question on it.

“The Association has weaved a cocoon round them and seems impervious to the team performance or the performance of the ‘Contracted player’ Irfan Pathan,” he said and added that while Association seems to ‘announce’ now and then that Lodha Committee recommendations or Supreme Court Orders, BCCI New Constitution will be adopted in full, but not doing anything in that direction.

“It seems that the senior selectors where not satisfied with the way things were happening and interference of Mr Pathan, so they opted out. This should have sent a message to Association but nothing has happened,” he said.

Talking to UNI, Mr Kalsotra said that he was feeling suffocated and his conscious did not allow him to continue.

“There is total biased approach and utter regional discrimination in the JKCA,” he alleged and sought interference of the BCCI to pacify the matters.

“Not commenting on the dismal team performance in Vijay Hazare Trophy, some important and talented players have been neglected by the tour selection committee for reasons best known to them”, he claimed and said that, someone who has performed well with the ball has been given chance to bowl only in two matches having played all five so far.

“JKCA seems to have been handed over to Irfan Pathan for cricketing affairs and all others are being over looked,” he added.

Pertinent to mention here that JKCA has lost six matches in a row in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Cricket Tournament being played at Chennai.
