Chairman SHRC, CVC commissioner, Targami meets Governor

Srinagar: Chairman Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Justice (Retd) Bilal Nazki, Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) P L Gupta and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf TargamiΒ on SaturdayΒ called on Governor Satya Pal Malik here today.
A Raj Bhavan spokesman said here this afternoon that Justice Bilal Nazki met Governorat the Raj Bhavan here today and briefed him about the functioning of the Commission.
Governor and Justice Nazki discussed issues relating to steps required to be taken for ensuring against denial of rights to women, underprivileged and weaker sections of the society, maintenance of proper treatment of prisoners in various jails.
Governor stressed the crucial importance of governance by the Rule of Law and protection of Constitutional and fundamental rights of the citizens. Referring to the high importance attaching to the responsibilities entrusted to State Human Rights Commission he urged Justice Nazki to make the citizen’s awareof Commission’s objectives so that its work can be carried out effectively.
CVC Gupta briefed Governor on the current status of the work being done by the State Vigilance Commission and the special efforts which are being made to enhance the accountability of the administrative system.
Governor advised the CVC to speed up the processes of the Commission to see that the corrupt elements are effectively dealt with, if transparency is to be introduced in the functioning of the public institutions.
MrTarigami discussed important matters with Governor relating to the restoration of peace and normalcy in the State and also raised issues regarding the need to secure balanced development of Kulgam district.
Governor urged Mr Tarigami to continue his sustained endeavours for promoting public welfare and for providing avenues to youth to explore their talents in sports and other extracurricular activities.
