Night temp above normal, day chill intensifies

Srinagar: The night temperature dipped though remained above normal at majority of the places in Kashmir valley, where very light rain or snow is predicted during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, chill intensified during the day due to overcast conditions, coupled with ice cold winds in the valley.
The border town of Kargil was the coldest place in the region at minus 6.8 degree, followed by world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the mercury dipped and settled at minus 4 degree.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that very light rain or snow would occur during the next 24 hours in Kashmir valley. However, he said weather will remain dry till November 21, which could result in further dip in the night temperature across the valley.
The night temperature in Leh dipped and settled at minus 2.8 degree against minus 1.4 degree recorded on Wednesday.
After witnessing a dip of about 2 degree in the night temperature, people woke up to a chilly Thursday morning in the summer capital, Srinagar. As the day progressed, sun played hide and seek though chill continued due to ice cold winds. Against 5.2 degree recorded on Wednesday, the night temperature in Srinagar was 3.3 degree, which is still about 2 degree above normal. The maximum temperature recorded in the summer capital on Wednesday was about 9 degree below normal.
The mercury at Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, dipped about a degree and settled at minus 4 degree, which is about 4 degree below normal. Gulmarg was the only place in the region where the maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was below freezing point.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, was the second place in the valley where the night temperature settled below freezing point. Against 1.3 degree recorded on Wednesday, the night temperature in Pahalgam was minus 3 degree, which is about 2 degree below normal.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag also dipped and settled at 4.2 degree, 1.3 degree and 2.6 degree, respectively.
