Srinagar: The traffic was suspended on the 484-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, which connects Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, on Monday due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall.
“We have suspended traffic movement on the Srinagar-Leh national highway due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall at different places, including Zojila pass,” a traffic police official told UNI.
However, he said all the vehicles have been cleared from the highway. “All the vehicles from Sonamarg crossed Zojila till 1300 hrs on Monday,” he said.
The road is slippery so no vehicle was allowed from Zojila to Srinagar, he said, adding traffic was suspended as a precautionary measure to avoid any accident. On Monday, traffic was to ply from Sonamarg to Kargil in the morning and from Kargil to Sonamarg in the afternoon.
“We are monitoring the road condition,” he said, adding traffic will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the officials posted at different places on the highway.
