UBL election Kashmir; Out of 624 wards, Cong won 157, BJP 100, Ind 178

Srinagar: Out of 624 wards, election was held in 208 and 231 were won uncontested while 185 remained vacant in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) election held in four phases from October 8 to 16.
BJP and Congress won 76 and 78 wards uncontested while one got by an independent.
There was no candidate in 185 wards and remain vacant in the ULB election which was boycotted the two main political parties National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) besides Communist Party of India (M) alleging that state and governments have failed to clear their stand on Article 35 A.
BJP which has finally opened account in the Kashmir valley has bagged 100 seats—24 through polls and 76 uncontested.
Congress won 157 seats—79 through contest and 78 uncontested while 103 independents were elected and 75 got elected uncontested.
Interestingly Janta Dal (United) also opened account and one a seat in Kupwara Municipal Committee.
